Barney Davis

Barney Davis of Hoyt passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28 in Hoyt at the age of 92. He was born Nov.  21, 1924, in Brooken to Robert and Ella (Bush) Davis.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Bigger and husband, David of Hoyt, Pauline Hill and husband, Gary of Keota, Dorothy Adcock and husband, Darrell of Quinton, Renee Stout of Whitefield; two sisters, Carrie Peak, Carolyn Berry; one brother, Raymond “Doc” Davis of Brooken; 12 grandchildren, Ronnie Davis, Barney Davis, Julie Davis, Pattie Reese, Terry Bigger, Steven Bigger, Gary Paul Hill, Cynthia Sanford, Ray Adcock, Randi Stout, Jami O’Dell, Johnny Stout; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends.
He served in World War II for almost four years and he received many awards including, European African Middle Eastern campaign ribbon, Central Europe campaign ribbon, Army of occupational medal, and good conduct medal. While Barney served in the Army he met and fell in love with Neoma Bolton and married her on Nov. 17, 1947, in Las Vegas, Nev. Barney and Neoma spent nearly 50 years together before she passed away. Barney worked on numerous jobs like heavy construction, ranching, coal mining, pipeline, and became foreman on all of them. He enjoyed operating and teaching others how to run a dozer. He could operate small to large. He liked to hunt and fish in his younger years with all his boys. Mostly he loved to work. Lately, he would say, “If I could just have one more day to work.” Barney will be remembered as a devoted husband, a wonderful dad, a caring father in-law and a loving grandpa and great-grandpa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Neoma Davis of almost 50 years; one son, Paul Davis; a great-grandson, Landon Johnson; parents, Robert and Ella Davis; and four brothers, Argie Davis, Alvie Davis, Sherman Davis and Leotis Davis.
Services were held March 3 at Free Will Baptist Church, Stigler with the Rev. David Bigger and Darrell Adcock officiating. Burial followed at Brooken Cemetery under the direction of Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory of Stigler.
Pallbearers were his grandsons.
