Barbara Murray

Barbara Jean Murray, 81, of Porum passed away Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2018, at her home. She was born Nov. 20, 1936, in Apache to Charles and Mary (Williams) Lewis. She grew up in Porum where she attended school. She loved playing baseball and fighting with the boys in her youth.

Barbara married J.C. Murray on Jan. 13, 1953, and they made their home in Porum and raised their six children, as well as a niece, a nephew and helped raise two grandchildren. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and cooking. She had a heart of gold and loved her family. She’ll be missed by all who loved and knew her.

Barbara is survived by her three sons, Jack Murray and wife, Cathy, of Bentonville, Ark., Charles Murray of Porum and John Murray and wife, Joy, of Forgan; three daughters, Diana Neal and husband, Rick, of Stigler, Mary Burgess and husband, Marcus, of Porum and Tina Caraway and friend, Earl Chandler, of Pocassett; 19 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren with one on the way and  three great-great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Lewis; her beloved husband of 48 years, J.C. Murray; two brothers, Buddy and Avon Lewis; a sister, Jennell Hale and a grandson, Travis Murray.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 27, 2018, at R.E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Stanley Smith officiating. Eulogist was the Rev. Chris Bullard. Pallbearers included her children, Jack Murray, Diana Neal, Chuck Murray, Mary Burgess, Tina Caraway and John Murray. Honorary pallbearers included Tom and  Zech Murray; Marc, Ethan and Devon Burgess; A.J., Daniel, Aragon and Oli Caraway; Dylan, Ryan and Nate Bryant; Seth and Blaine Murray; Kansas Gulley; Blaede Merrell Karson Houston and Bill Murray.

Burial followed at Coleman Cemetery in Porum under the direction of King and Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
