Calhoun breaks interceptions record
Stigler Panther Jaxon Calhoun broke the school record for career interceptions during the first round of playoffs on Nov. 15. During the game, he had two interceptions, bringing his total to 14.
The record was previously held by David Dillion who had 13 interceptions in his career from 1978-80. Also on the list of most interceptions are Bobby Dow, Kane Zachry and Daniel Smith.
Even with several calls reversed throughout the season, Calhoun said he knew he was close to breaking the record. He said he didn’t let the calls hinder his confidence.
“I had 10 to begin with,” Calhoun explained. “But then a few weeks went by and I wasn’t sure I could break it.”
It wasn’t until the first round of playoffs that Calhoun picked up where he left off. During the game he had two interceptions that put him first in the record book.
“I just set out to help my team win as much as possible this year,” Calhoun said.
As for the future, Calhoun is looking forward to basketball season and graduation. He plans to attend college and pursue a pharmaceutical or business degree, with hopes of playing football.
Panther fans can catch Calhoun kick off basketball season with the rest of the Panthers basketball team beginning Dec. 3 at the Stigler High School gym.
