Alice ‘Pauline’ Butler

Alice “Pauline” Butler was born April 1, 1923, to Fred and Millie Cantrell in Choctaw. She passed away on Aug. 25, 2018, at the age of 95.

She is survived by daughters, Connie Jones and husband, L.D., of Tahlequah, Pam Pearson and husband, Jim, of Stigler; daughter-in-law, Carol Butler of Lawton; grandchildren, Randy, Rick, Robin, Kim, Tammy and Eric; eight great-grandchildren and one soon to be born, namesake, Alice JoLea Pearson; several great-great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Audrey Cantrell of Roseville, Calif.

Pauline was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Millie Cantrell; her husband, Denvil Butler; sons, Jimmie Butler and Tim Butler; three sisters, Dorothy Lipps, Gladys Ward and Betty Vanderpool; and brother, Carl Cantrell.

She moved to California when she was 18 years old and married Denvil Butler on Aug. 2, 1941, in Reno, Nev. She was the only one of her family to ever return to Oklahoma to live.

Pauline held many jobs from picking fruit, ironing, cleaning houses, working in nursing homes, being a cook and working at Western Auto and Wal-Mart. She loved working and being out among people. She loved and took special care of her family right up until the very end. Pauline was a very determined and strong-willed person. She was a member of Stigler First Free Will Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and her church family.

Funeral services were  held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2018, at Stigler First Free Will Baptist in Stigler with Bro. David Bigger officiating and Bro. Brian Snow providing the eulogy. Burial will follow at Whitefield Cemetery in Whitefield.

Pallbearers will be Eric Pearson, Rick Jones, Kim Butler, John Turrentine, Matt Webster and Terry Proe.

Honorary pallbearers will be Don Webster, James Bollinger, BJ Johnson, Danny Yates, Tom Highfill and Bill Allen.

Viewing was held Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visitation with the family was Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Services entrusted to Mallory – Martin Funeral Home in Stigler.
