Youth enjoy junior golf camp in Stigler

A three-day junior golf camp was held at Brier Creek Golf Course in Stigler.

Youth from several communities attended the camp, which was held from Wednesday, May 29 to Friday, May 31.

Participants ranged in ages from eight to 15. Scott Shepherd, Ed Shepherd, Jenni Martin and Robbie Turner assisted with the camps and coached the teams this year.  
Martin, who has been helping with the camp for three years, explained that participants learned the basics of putting on the green, chipping and working on their full swing. Participants were put through drills and practices and learned how to get exposed to the game.

The camp is available each year for youth at any level of experience with golf. “We have kids from beginners to kids who play professionally,” Martin said.
“It helps get kids interested in golf,” said Scott Shepherd about the camp.  

The camp is sponsored by community organizations, including Brier Creek Golf Course, Cross Auction Services, Mallory-Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, Bates, Farmers State Bank and Stigler’s Something Printed.
Sponsors paid for the camp shirts, food and everything needed for the camp.All proceeds from the camp will be given back to the Brier Creek Golf Course, organizers explained.
