Words of Isaiah 9 greatly needed

By Bob Kirkley, Minister, Stigler church of Christ
“He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace ...” The words of Isaiah 9 are ringing throughout the land during this time of year.
What powerful words. But, more importantly, what powerful truths. They are powerful because they are so greatly needed throughout our land, not just at this time of year, but in every single moment. The counsel He gives is not only true, but it’s also relevant and His counsel changes lives.
His transcendent power is most often difficult for us to comprehend. The power he has to speak creation into existence and the power to fix marriages and heal families today, can bring us to our knees.
Too many people in our world also struggle with the concept of a loving God being an “Everlasting Father.” When so many dads are absent in the lives of their kids, it leaves those with an empty need. So, there are too many little boys and girls who never know what its like to crawl up into daddy’s lap just to sit or fall asleep in the one place on earth that they believe is the safest place on earth. But everyone of us have a Heavenly Father in whose presence, we can feel safe and loved.
The peace! That experience we have when, for a moment, all is right with the world. The peace that might be difficult to see, is peace that lives even in the chaos of our daily lives. But as the old country song talks about “looking for love in all the wrong places,” we also do the same thing when we seek the peace that only God’s presence can provide. We just look for it in places where it can’t be found.
You see, it isn’t about a season of lights, beauty and celebrations. It’s a relationship in which we are blessed beyond our wildest dreams. A relationship in which, all year round, we can “Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Sleep in Heavenly Peace.” May each one of you have a very Blessed Christmas and a wonderful, prosperous New Year!
God bless!
