WINTER WEATHER: Highway Conditions Alert 1-17-24 as of 5 a.m. (From Oklahoam Department of Transportation)

Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority crews are reporting isolated slick spots in Northeastern Oklahoma as they continue plowing and sanding efforts.

Crews are working to treat slick spots and isolated snow packed roads in Delaware and Ottawa counties. Other areas of the state are reporting clear highways. Crews are monitoring conditions for overnight refreeze statewide and will treat slick spots as needed.

Drivers should be aware that even if a highway looks clear there may still be slick spots from overnight refreeze and should use extra caution, especially on bridges, overpasses and rural highways.

Drivers can check current road conditions on the interactive travel map at www.okroads.org or through the Drive Oklahoma mobile app.

REMEMBER during snowy and icy conditions, motorists are asked to:

• Stay about 200 feet behind road clearing equipment; crews need room to maneuver and can engage plowing or spreading materials without notice.
• Allow extra space between vehicles to provide adequate distance for braking.
• Be aware of "black ice," which looks wet on the roadway but is a thin layer of ice.
• Be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
