UPDATED: OHP reports on Sept. 14 fatality in county

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that one person died in a two-vehicle collision in Haskell County on Wednesday, Sept. 14.

The collision occurred about 4 p.m. on state Highway 31 at the intersection of state Highway 82, 6.8 miles east of Kinta, the report states.

According to OHP, the collision involved a Mack truck, which was being driven by John Cosper, 55, of Wister; and a Volkswagen Jetta, which was being driven by Amanda Mayo -Conrad, 22, of Talihina.

 The Mack truck was eastbound on state Highway 31. A Volkswagen Jetta, was westbound on state Highway 31, and attempted to turn southbound onto state Highway 82.

The Mack truck hit the Volkswagen Jetta on the passenger side and departed the roadway to the right, the report states.
Mayo-Conrad was pronounced deceased at the scene by the medical examiner. Cosper was not injured in the collision.

The collision was investigated by OHP trooper Sean Haney of the McIntosh/Haskell County detachment of Troop C.

He was assisted by trooper Brandon Harmon of Troop S and trooper Sheldon Dobbs of the traffic homicide unit.
He was also assisted by Haskell County Sheriff’s Office, Pafford EMS and the Lequire Fire Department.

Cause of the collision is  under investigation, according to the OHP report.

Amanda Mayo-Conrad was a dispatcher for Haskell County Sheriff’s Office and Stigler Police Department.

“Amanda was a quick witted, funny, caring and hard working lady. We loved having her around and she will  be missed. These tragedies don’t happen often, but when they do our community surrounds us and we are thankful for that,” Sheriff Tim Turner told the Stigler News-Sentinel.

The Stigler Police Department provided the following comments from Chief Richard Dickson: “Amanda was a new member of our police department family. She was a great dispatcher and lived and breathed law enforcement. We are greatly saddened by this tragic event and would appreciate continued prayers for Amanda’s family. We are all blessed to have been a part of her life. Her laughter and constant smile has left an imprint on our hearts.”
