Stigler teachers walkout begins April 9
Stigler Public Schools teachers will begin their walkout on Monday, per a press release from the Stigler Public Schools office. Stigler joins Kinta and Keota, as well as numerous other school districts statewide, in the walkout that calls attenton to the massive cuts in education aid. Kinta has been out of class all week while still administering tests. Keota teachers voted Wednesday to be out Thursday preceeding its normal Friday off.
Below is the press release submitted by Stigler Public Schools.
Schools in Stigler will be closed on a day to day basis until further notice. Due to the continued delays in finding a long term solution for the State of Oklahoma in solving the Education funding crisis, Stigler Public Schools will not be in session Monday, April 9, and will make the decision to extend the walkout on a day-to-day basis.
The district believes there's been ample time to address the state's funding issues, we are doing this for classroom and operational funding, not teacher pay.
Although school will be closed, breakfast and lunch will be served at the Stigler Grade School Cafeteria and Sandridge Pentecostal Holiness Church. Breakfast will be served from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at each site, for any Stigler School student.
When classes resume, the district will notify parents and guardians via their school website, school messenger, and social media platforms. Daily closures will follow the same procedure process as the inclement weather procedures in the handbook.
Also, Stigler, like Keota, will continue extracurricular activities during the walkout.
