Stigler High School’s drama team presented the one-act play “Santa’s Big Trouble,” a Christmas play that teaches the importance of curiosity and learning, on Dec. 13.
Santa and Mrs. Claus, played by Gracie Murrell, had problems paying rent at their warm weather workshop, but Mrs. Claus believed she had the toys in development to pay the bills.
However, she had to prove the value of her toys to her test group of children, Sadie Quick, Justin Geralds, Isaac Goodman and Beth Bryce, as well as buyers Claire Highfill, Rylan Price and Kaylyn Connerty.
The child jury and the buyers showed indifference towards the first two toys, a dancing doll and the Good Ole Boy, portrayed by Marlee Alexander and Kenneth Van Tassel, respectively.
Then came Wonder Toy, played by Lake McClary, which asked questions about various things like Brazil and the Amazon River.
The child jurors gave a hostile reaction, giving it a score of zero. The buyers sided with them.
After Wonder Toy’s wires went awry and it started attacking and destroying things, the jury was excited and the toy was renamed “Big Trouble.”
Eventually, the toy hurt Santa’s back and the children said they would take Wonder Toy as it originally was. Wonder Toy asked what people say on Christmas and Santa merrily shouted, “Merry Christmas.”
The moral of the story, which was written by Vera Morris, was “never forget to wonder.”
Tyler Hudspeth played Captain Jet. Hayden Shaffer was Santa’s understudy.
Jaedyn Bass, Madison Gilmore, Cass Jordan and Mattie Rose were Santa’s elves. Caleb Knowlton directed the play. Kylie Coplen did hair and makeup design.
