Skatepark plans presented, feedback requested

Information regarding a skatepark in Stigler was presented during an online visioning session on Tuesday, Aug. 17.

During the session, which was conducted by Newline Skateparks, three designs for the skatepark were presented.

Feedback from area residents is being requested before final plans are presented. The link to a survey is: http://tinyurl.com/StiglerSkateSurvey.

The designers explained that it was their goal to design a skatepark that was unique and represented Stigler.

Another public meeting will be conducted, during which the final design for the skatepark will be presented. The date for that meeting will be announced soon.

Janie and Bill Cox presented the City of Stigler with a $100,000 donation to be used in the construction of a skatepark. The city will match the funds, and apply for a grant for an additional $200,000 which is needed for the skatepark, explained Bobby Mouser, Stigler’s city manager.

The city is working with Kiamichi Economic Development District of Oklahoma (KEDDO) in applying for a grant from the Oklahoma Tourism & Recreation Department. The city should know the status of its grant application by early summer 2022, Mouser said.

“It’s our intent to build a skatepark near the original baseball fields in the northeast portion of Stigler,” Mouser said.

The skatepark will provide another incentive for local and area residents to remain in the area for recreation activities, and will encourage others from other areas to travel to Stigler, Mouser said.
