Shop Local campaign begins Nov. 25

Area residents who help the local economy by shopping locally during the Christmas season will be rewarded with opportunities to receive cash prizes.
The Shop Local campaign began Nov. 25 and will continue through Dec. 16. It is sponsored by Stigler-Haskell County Chamber of Commerce. During the campaign, participating area businesses will be handing out coupons for each $10 spent. In addition, patrons will receive double coupons on three special days during the Shop Local campaign.
A variety of retailers are participating in the Shop Local campaign and they will each have a sign posted, which states their participation.
For each $10 spent at participating businesses, shoppers will receive one coupon.
Half of each coupon will be given to the customer, and participating merchants will deliver the other half to the chamber of commerce office and entered in the holiday drawings.
On three special days during the Shop Local campaign, double coupons – two for every $10 purchase - will be given to shoppers:
* Nov. 26 - Small Business Saturday.
* Dec. 1. On this day, the MRS Club/chamber of commerce tree lighting ceremony is scheduled. (See related story about the event in this issue). Also, some businesses will be hosting open houses.
* Dec. 13 – Tinsel Tuesday. Participating businesses will stay open until 7 p.m.
At noon on Saturday, Dec. 18, three coupon drawings will be conducted at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn. The drawings will be for $$250, $500 and $1,000 cash. Shoppers participating in the program must be present to win.
