Peace Run participants travel through Stigler

Participants in the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run conduct a ceremony on the Haskell County Courthouse lawn. Janice Williams, Stigler-Haskell County Chamber of Commerce executive director, also participated in the ceremony. Members of the peace run team are from seven countries. They began in New York City in mid-April and will be on the road for four months in a more than 11,000-mile relay to promote peace, harmony and friendship. The continuous relay will link Mexico, Canada and the United States. The European relay started in Bulgaria in February and will end in Portugal in October after running some 16,000 miles. Along the route, team members are meeting with schools and youth organizations to pass the torch and hear views on peace. For more than 30 years the Peace Run has traveled through 150 nations throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia as a symbol of humanity’s universal aspiration for a more peaceful world. They were in Stigler May 9.
