OHP: One injured in collision (Updated)

One man was injured in an early morning crash on state Highway 9 west of Stigler, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

About 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16, Juan Alvarez, 51, of Dallas, Texas was driving a 2020 Volvo and traveling west. Dakota Dugan, 26, of Pocola was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and traveling east.

The Jeep Cherokee crossed the center lane and hit the Volvo head on, the OHP report states.

Dugan was pinned in the vehicle for 40-50 minutes before he was extricated by Stigler Fire Department. He was then transported by Tulsa Life Flight to a Tulsa hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition, according to the OHP.

Seatbelts were in use in both vehicles. Cause of the collision is listed on the OHP report as “inattentive.”

Trooper Trey Downum of the Haskell County Detachment of Troop C investigated the collision. He was assisted by Lt. John Huggins of the detachment, Haskell County Sheriff’s Department, Stigler Fire Department, Southside Fire Department, Pafford EMS and Tulsa Life Flight.
