Multiple charges filed in connection with shooting

A Quinton man is facing multiple charges following two altercations, according to Haskell County District Court records.

Donnie DeWayne Ary, 54, is accused of shooting at another man. Other charges filed against Ary are in connection to his actions as officers conducted an investigation and attempted to place Ary under arrest, according to court documents. Officers traveled to the Lewisville area about 8 p.m. on May 31, after the sheriff’s office was notified that one man had allegedly been shot at by Ary. Court documents state that Ary had pointed a gun at the man while the two were drinking beer and talking in a truck. The man told officers “that once he jumped out of the truck he heard several gunshots go off,” court documents state. After conducting an interview with the man who allegedly had been shot at, Sheriff Tim Turner learned where Ary was, court documents state. When Turner arrived at the scene, he learned that Ary had three deputies at gunpoint. The deputies were able to get to a safe location and Turner contacted Ary by phone and negotiated a meeting, court documents state.

As Turner made contact with Ary, he noticed Ary’s hand “go toward  the gun” which was laying in the bed of a truck.

After receiving multiple commands to not grab the gun, “Ary decided he had rather fight than shoot,” court documents state. As Ary went toward the sheriff,  a deputy was able to take him to the ground from the back. Ary was then arrested. As Ary was being transported to a county vehicle, he spit in the sheriff’s face, documents state.

“The outcome of this situation could have been very different. We are lucky everyone went home safe and not injured,” Turner said. “Our mission is to provide safety to everyone, even the alleged offenders.”

Ary has been charged with shooting with intent to kill, feloniously pointing firearm (two counts) prisoner placing bodily fluid on government employee, possession of a firearm after former felony conviction and obstructing an officer.

Charges were filed in Haskell County District Court on June 10.
