Healthy Living Expo Oct. 21

After several years of hiatus due to the pandemic, the Haskell County Coalition is pleased to announce the Haskell County Healthy Living Expo will be conducted on the Haskell County Courthouse lawn from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21.
This free community event will showcase healthy resources from local businesses, organizations and agencies.
The event will include vendors, door prizes, giveaways, and loads of information on ways to stay healthy, mentally and physically.
Complete OK Home Health will provide lunch for all who attend.
Also, there will be demonstrations showcasing several topics including healthy food preparation, physical activities, mental health wellness, ways to deal with stress and how to protect from diseases.
“The Haskell County Coalition wants to take this opportunity to provide our community with information about resources available to them to improve their health and the health of their family and friends,” said Royce Alverson, Haskell County Coalition Chair and Community and Public Relations Director at KI BOIS Community Action.
The Health & Wellness Center is proud to partner in this event. HWC will be on-site and will provide information about their resources and services. They will also provide tours of the Mobile Dental Unit and offer free eye screenings.
Anyone who receives an eye screening will be entered into a drawing for a pair of designer sunglasses.
The HWC HIVE (HIV Education) will have HIV resources, including free HIV take-home testing kits. They will also present their HIV Education Video at the gazebo on the courthouse lawn at noon. Anyone who watches the video will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Walmart gift card.
In addition, the Choctaw Nation Community Opioid Intervention Pilot Project and Haskell County Sheriff’s Department will have a drug take-back drop-off location set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  This is an opportunity for area residents to clean out their medicine cabinets, and drop off unused, unwanted or expired medications, and receive a free bag of goodies for their efforts. Everyone who drops off medication will have their name entered into a drawing.
“With the tobacco use rate at 21.9 percent and the obesity rate at 41 percent, both higher than the state average of 19.1 percent and 36.4 percent respectively, it is imperative that the folks in our community have knowledge and access to preventative and continuing resources that help improve the quality of their lives,”   said Denice Daniels, Program Coordinator for the Haskell County TSET Healthy Living Program.
In addition to KI BOIS Community Action, The Health & Wellness Center, Choctaw Nation, and the Carl Albert Community Health Center, there will be several other organizations and vendors present.
