Healthy Living Expo, Lighting of Faith set for Sept. 20

Staff Report
The annual Healthy Living Expo and Lighting of Faith ceremony will offer information on a variety of health-related issues and provide the opportunity to honor individuals who have battled or are battling cancer,
All events are scheduled to take place on the lawn of Haskell County Community Hospital on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
The Healthy Living Expo will be conducted from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. More than 25 local health care-related vendors are registered to participate in this event. In addition to providing information about health issues, each vendor will be bringing take-aways and a door prize.
In addition, Mama Tigs will be on site, selling their wood fired pizza.
Royce Alverson with Haskell County Coalition will be taking registrations. “We encourage participants to use the new coaliton hashtag - #Together4HaskellCo - to promote more interest in the coalition,” an  organizer said.
The Lighting of Faith will begin at 7 p.m., and will include music, messages and a special lighted balloon release.
Music will be provided by gospel singers The Wright Family, The Alversons and the Gospel Cousins as well as NAM Cover Girl Arianna Eakle.
Brother Tommie Parker of Trinity Baptist Church and Brother Tony Randol of West Liberty Baptist Church will be delivering messages of faith.
Also during the ceremony, names of those who are battling or who have battled cancer will be read.
The Lighting of Faith ceremony will conclude with a lighted balloon release. The balloons can be purchased at the Lighting of Faith. In addition, chances on a quilt donated by Janiese Tooman will be sold, and the winner’s name will be drawn on Oct. 28.
Another way to honor individuals and their battles with cancer are on the lawn of the hospital. Pink flamingos - each displaying the name of a person who has battled or is battling cancer - will grace the lawn of the hospital through October. A name can be displayed on a flamingo for a minimal donation.
Proceeds from the activities involved with the Lighting of Faith and pink flamingos will be donated to the Faith Fund. “This fund has recently been established to help anyone that is currently going through treatment for cancer,” organizers explained.
For additional information about the fund, contact Cheryl Paulsen, Kellie Hamilton or Royce Alverson.
