Fine, AMI meters, sports season discussed

Stigler’s city council and municipal improvement authority meetings were conducted on Monday, April 13, with council members and others who attended following social distancing guidelines.
The meetings included the following discussion and action items:
The city has been fined $9,000 due to improper release of water in the lagoons at the former wastewater treatment facility, according to Bobby Mouser, city manager.
The former facility has been offline for approximately two years, since the city’s new facility was completed. City officials have been hampered in their efforts to dispose of the water and fill in the lagoons, due to the significant rainfall the area has received, Mouser explained. DEQ officials deferred half of the fine imposed. Following discussion, council members voted to pay the fine. Mouser told council members that city employees will continue to focus on completing the project.
The city has completed the first month of utilizing the new Advance Metering Infrastructure (AMI) water meter system. The city manager said everything worked well during the first full month that AMI was online.
AMI remotely gathers information from water meters and will improve accuracy and timeliness of billings, according to Mouser.
Baseball and softball league play, which was originally set to begin April 1, is now scheduled to begin at the city’s sports complexes June 1, Mouser said. Due to the necessity for social distancing as the community deals with issues regarding the coronavirus, the season will be abbreviated this year. Officials are hoping other sports can also be played soon. “The fields are in remarkable condition,” he said.
Approval of city and municipal authority expenses.
