County and state political candidates fielded questions on a variety of topics during the Haskell County Political Debate on Monday, Oct. 17.
The event - which also included a pie auction -   was organized to provide voters with information about county and state candidates, and to raise funds for school organizations.
Participants included: Joey Bray (Republican), and Sandra Zachry, (Democrat), candidates for Haskell County District 2 Commissioner; Tim Turner, (Democrat), candidate for Haskell County Sheriff; Ed Cannaday (Democrat), and Don Herrold, (Republican), candidates for State Representative District 15; and Larry Boggs, (Republican), and Joel Kerns, (Democrat), candidates for State Senator District 7.
Todd Seagraves, Republican candidate for Haskell County Sheriff, was unable to attend the debate.
Stigler Student Council, with assistance from the Speech Team and FCCLA, hosted the debate, and proceeds from the event will benefit the three organizations.
Candidates were asked about state financial issues, state questions and their qualifications and goals to serve in public office. County candidates were also asked for their opinions regarding paying the debt owed on the Haskell County Criminal Justice Center.
