County Assessor: Property Tax Savings Available

The Haskell County Assessor’s office would like to share information with local homeowners about potential savings on property taxes.
Homestead exemption is available to all property owners who permanently reside on their property. The homestead exemption saves owners from $75 to $100 depending on the school/tax district the property is located in. Once applied, this exemption remains with the property as long as the owner continues to live on the property.
Double homestead exemption saves twice as much but is only available to those whose total household income is $25,000 or less.
A senior valuation freeze is available for those who are 65 years of age or older and have a total annual gross household income of $62,100 or less. The senior valuation freeze locks in the value of a person’s home so that fluctuations in the housing market don’t raise their taxable property value. Any veteran compensation does not count toward the annual household income guidelines.
Please visit or call the Haskell County Assessor’s Office to apply. These exemptions must be applied for between January 1 and March 15 for them to be effective for the upcoming 2023 tax year.
You must bring income verification to apply for the double homestead or senior freeze.
Another exemption exists for veterans with 100 percent service-connected permanent disabilities. The exemption covers 100 percent of the property tax liability of a homesteaded property. To receive this exemption, bring a copy of the letter with an official seal from the V.A. Unlike other exemptions, this may be applied for and received at any time of the year.
If you have any questions, please call Shawna Hudspeth at the Haskell County Assessor’s office at (918) 967-2611.
