Christmas time is here

Christmas time is in full swing in Haskell County. There are several events taking place in the next few weeks.

To start the festivities, Stigler-Haskell County Chamber of Commerce is holding a holiday window display contest. From Dec. 2 to Dec. 20, merchants are encouraged to decorate their window/facade with their favorite holiday theme and post it on Facebook. To vote, residents are to take a selfie with their favorite window and email it to stiglerchamber@gmail.com, or text 918-724-1847. Voting will close at noon on Dec. 20 and a winner will be announced during the Shop Stigler Cash Drawing on Dec. 21.  

The MRS club is set to host the annual tree lighting ceremony on Dec. 5. The annual event will be held in downtown Stigler at the courthouse. It begins at 5:30 p.m. with hot chocolate, treats, and entertainment from the high school band and The Alverson's, followed by the tree lighting at 6:30. 

On Dec. 7, the Stigler parade will begin at 10 a.m. with a Country Christmas theme, followed by a visit from Santa at the Hallmark store inside Hoover Drug at 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be pictures with Santa and cookies and hot chocolate. 

The Keota Christmas parade will be Dec. 7, at 1 p.m. on Main Street in Keota.

Stigler High School speech team will be presenting their Christmas play on Dec. 9 at 5 p.m. in the high school auditorium. They will be doing a rendition of “The Grinch,” and admission will be $5. 

On Saturday, Dec. 14, McCurtain will be presenting their Christmas parade celebration with registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the parade beginning 10 a.m. Mayor Patrik Lovell will be presenting the tree lighting ceremony at 5 p.m.

Quinton will be having a parade on Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.
