Community members gathered on the lawn of the Haskell County Courthouse on Friday, Nov. 11, to pay tribute to veterans
“A simple ‘thank you’ will go a long way,” said Stigler Mayor Larry Godfrey during the Veterans Day service.
Godfrey said he attended the event as a “grateful American” and encouraged others to remember the debt owed to veterans who fought for the nation’s freedom and to remember them in prayer, especially during the Thanksgiving season.
The mayor also spoke about the continued service of area veterans, who help community members in many ways.
“Stigler is blessed to have veterans and their families here,” he said.
Stigler’s Veterans Day program also included singing by Stigler third and fourth graders and the leading of the Pledge of Allegiance by preschool students.
A wreath was laid in front of the memorial honoring those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Area veterans posted the colors, presented the 21-gun salute, played “Taps” and led in prayer.

Additional photos from this ceremony and others in the area will be posted on this website and published in next week’s Stigler News-Sentinel.
