Jan. 21 — Two weeks after allegedly stabbing a woman just outside of McCurtain, Roberto Garcia Nunez was formally charged.

He remained jailed without bond Monday morning.

Nunez, who has a Quinton address, observed his 22nd birthday in the Haskell County Jail on Jan. 2. He was charged Jan. 14 with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a felony punishable upon conviction by imprisonment for up to life.

He is accused of stabbing 40-year-old Lela Ruth Rust, of the Pocola area, in the neck and throat early in the evening of Dec. 29. Rust spent several days in Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith as a result of her wounds, according to Jessica Brown, spokeswoman for the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.
