Looking for a girl with 'True Grit'
Casting for movie in Tulsa

From submitted reports

Paramount Pictures and Filmmakers Joel and Ethan Coen are looking to cast the role of Mattie Ross for their latest project "True Grit," based on the Charles Portis novel which spawned the Academy Award-winning film starring John Wayne in 1969.

The casting call will take place on Sunday, Jan. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in Tulsa at the Hotel Ambassador located at 1324 S. Main St. Female applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 16. Space is limited; please bring only one parent/guardian per girl or group. Also, please remember to bring a current photo to leave with casting directors.

Mattie is to be a simple, tough as nails 14-year-old, young woman. Her steely nerves and straightforward manner are a shocking contrast to the way women behaved in the early century. She’s possessed of true grit and plenty of determination. No experience is necessary.

Additional notes: Do not make the mistake of trying to appear like or imitate Kim Darby (who played Mattie Ross in the original film). The film’s publicist states, “We are looking for a tough girl who is tough, strong and tells it like it is.” The casting directors are looking for real (scrubbed down, no makeup) “gritty” girls. Preferably the kind that ride horses, get dirty and speak their mind. They are not looking for theatrical “model” types. Rodeo girls (who ride and rope) are a plus.

"True Grit" is shooting in New Mexico and Texas and is slated to begin March 20.

For those interested, but not able to make the open casting call may send the film’s casting director an audition on tape by January 9. More information on casting can be found at http://www.truegritcasting.com/index.html.
