Good time planned for Back To School Roundup
By Doug Russell, News Editor
STIGLER, July 9 — Summer may not be over, but that doesn’t mean students — and parents — can’t start getting ready for school to begin.
That’s why the Haskell County Coalition is sponsoring “Back To School Roundup 2009,” an opportunity for students and parents to get much needed school supplies and educational information as they prepare for the new school year. It’s also a way for students to get eye exams, physicals and even haircuts.
The Roundup will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 31 at the Stigler campus of Kiamichi Technology Center, 1410 Old Military Road.
“One big thing this year is that we’re really hoping to have all the students immunized as early as possible,” said Coalition member Sandie Rutherford.
To help with that, parents can call the Stigler Health & Wellness Center at 967-3368 or the Haskell County Health Department at 967-3304 to schedule immunizations for their students.
Students who have all of their immunizations up to date before the roundup will have met the first of three requirements toward getting a new backpack with school supplies. The other two requirements are: 1) the student must be physically present at the Roundup, and 2) the student must visit the various booths of Roundup sponsors and participants.
The supply-containing backpacks will be given to the first 300 regular school students who meet all three requirements, Rutherford said.
