Holly Lou Henderson Award all in the family

From submitted reports

STIGLER, June 25 — This year’s recipient of the Holly Lou Henderson award is Toni Lynn Jones. This memorial scholarship, given to a female athlete chosen by fellow athletes and coaches, is the highest award a female athlete at Stigler High School can receive.

For Toni, this award has a very special place in her heart. Her sister, Keaton Dale Jones, received this award last year. What makes this even more special for the two sisters is that their mother Kelly (Watson) Jones received the award in 1975.

Kelly Jones recalls attending basketball games when she was young and watching Henderson and her teammates play. She remembers how well they played together and that the team had a lot of influence to encourage her to play. She also remembers when Henderson had her accident. It was so devastating to the family and the community. Everyone knew Henderson and her family.

“To get this award is such an honor and for all three of us, getting it makes it that much more of an honor,” said Jones.
