Chamber director stepping down

It's been fun. It's been educational. But it's time to move on.
Janice Williams, executive director of the Stigler-Haskell County Chamber of Commerce, gave the word during the monthly Chamber of Commerce lunch Oct. 20.
"I've really enjoyed it, but I want to take some time to travel and just relax," she said.
Williams said her resignation will be effective Dec. 31.
Even though that's a few months out, the Chamber is already looking for someone to step into the position, said Chamber President Sandra Zachry.
"Janice has done a wonderful job and we'll miss her," she said at the meeting. (more on this story in this week's Stigler News Sentinel)

Filing could hurt locals in long run

By Doug Russell

The hospital may continue to operate, but the local businesses that have been carrying it for years could be hard hit by its parent company filing for bankruptcy.
Past due accounts for HMC/CAH Consolidated Inc. and its subsidiaries — including Haskell County Community Hospital — have been put on hold due to HMC/CAH filing a Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceeding. That means that local businesses might not see another penny on past due accounts for months. And even then, they might not ever be able to recover the full amount they're owed.
"I've been through this before," said Larry Godfrey, of Heads Pharmacy. "The court generally says you accept so much on the dollar or you get nothing at all. We're probably all going to lose money on this." (more on this story in this week's Stigler News Sentinel)
