Quinton set for districts, Kinta boys and Porum girls in regional finals

Quinton basketball opens its postseason at home as its girls team holds state tournament aspirations and the boys hope to show themselves to be better than their regular season. Also, Porum's boys survived Strother on and advanced to the Class A regional consolation final in Okemah. Porum's girls team plays in the Class A regional final against Glencoe in Okemah. Kinta's boys catch a break by playing an unranked team in Battiest for the Class B regional final in Henryetta. Here's a look at the matchups.

Quinton vs. Ketchum

Girls: Savages (21-2, ranked ninth in Class 2A) vs. Warriors (10-12) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Howe 68, Quinton 53; Sperry 38, Ketchum 31.

Last meeting: Quinton 41, Ketchum 34 (Feb. 6, 2016)

Notes: Macey McKee leads Quinton with 17.8 points per game. The Savages are looking to get their offense on the right track after shooting 30 percent in two of the past three games. They meet a Ketchum squad that struggles with scoring, averaging 38.7 points per game. Quinton scores 48.9 points per game while allowing 27.2 per game.

Boys: Savages (9-14) vs. Warriors (21-2, ranked eighth in Class 2A) 8 p.m.

Last game: Quinton 70, Howe 61; Ketchum 72, Sperry 70.

Last meeting: Ketchum 59, Quinton 47 (Feb. 6, 2016)

Notes: Quinton scores 47.2 points per game and allows 51.3 per game. Tristan Etchison leads the team with 15.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 3.4 steals per game. Ketchum, which has not lost to a Class 2A team this season, averages 72.4 points per game while allowing 50.4 points per game.

Porum boys (14-11) vs. Arkoma (17-8) 3 p.m.

Last game: Porum 60, Strother 51; Arkoma 65, Oaks 59.

Last meeting: Arkoma 47, Porum 38 (Jan. 3, 2014)

Notes: Porum averages 55.5 points per game. Arkoma scores 70 per game.

Porum girls (20-4, ranked 20th in Class A) vs. Glencoe (24-3, ranked sixth in Class A) 6:30 p.m.

Last game: Porum 65, Okay 39; Glencoe 86, Cameron 18.

Notes: This is a battle of two strong offensive teams, with Porum averaging 55.5 points per game and Glencoe scoring 85 per game.

Kinta boys (21-6, ranked No. 1 in Class B) vs. Battiest (16-10) 8 p.m.

Last game: Kinta 70, Indianola 28; Battiest 74, Moyers 64.

Notes: Battiest is a potent offensive team that has experienced its share of ups and downs. The Panthers, which average 62.7 points per game, have scored at least 70 points 11 times and amounted fewer than 50 points seven times. Kinta had one of its strongest all-around games in the regional opener against Indianola on Thursday as it allowed fewer than 30 points for the fourth time. Mark Lovelace has scored 44 points in the past two games. The Eagles allow 40.1 points per game. Battiest is 3-3 against ranked teams.
