Crews work fires over weekend, fire danger remains high

UPDATE: Monday, Feb. 13

While the potential for rain is in the forecast, fire danger remains high in Haskell County.
The county is under a governor-issued burn ban, and some of the fires that have been worked in the last few days were caused by illegal burning, said Brandie Sosa, the county's emergency management director.

Emergency crews responded to several fires over the weekend.

On Sunday, crews were called to a large grass fire on Perry Road.
Southside, Stigler, Lequire, Whitefield, Lona Valley fire fighters responded; as did the Oklahoma Forestry Services, Haskell County District 2, the county's emergency management director, Haskell County Sheriff's Office and Stigler Police Department.

On Saturday, Southside and Keota fire departments, along with the sheriff's office and emergency management, worked a fire in the Kanima area.

Also, there was a large grass fire in Whitefield on Saturday, and crews from Whitefield, Southside and Brooken fire departments responded, as did the sheriff's office, forestry services and emergency management.
